Anime will die out in a few decades or so?

I was browsing on the net when a news struck me. It’s about Dai Sato discussing issues on anime industry.

According to Japan Society website, Dai Sato started as a runner at several of Tokyo’s leading animation studios and TV stations before establishing a name for himself as a TV script-writer. He has collaborated with some of Japan’s best-known anime writers, and used this experience in game development projects and interactive club events.
Dai has been a writer for critically and popularly acclaimed television series and films such as Samurai Champloo (2004), Casshern (2004), Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (2004), and Cowboy Bebop (1998).

So this is the news:

Cowboy Bebop Writer: Anime Will Die Out in Few Decades

The Otaku Encyclopedia author Patrick W. Galbraith reports that Cowboy Bebop writer Dai Sato said he was “frustrated” with the anime industry during a July 4 roundtable discussion titled “Living in the City: Hip Hop, Anime, Housing Projects.”

According to Galbraith’s Otaku2 web report on the discussion at the Cultural Typhoon conference, Sato dismissed the idea of “Cool Japan” and complained that much of the in-between animation work in anime is outsourced to people in other countries, who may not be aware of or invested in the work itself. Similar to director Hayao Miyazaki, Sato criticized politicians and other who promoted the image of Cool Japan for their own purposes.

Sato also decried series that were more about escape than about confronting real problems, and proclaimed that the anime industry in Japan is a “super establishment system” rather than a creative force, focused more on characters and on merchandise. He suggested that manga was “the last hold out,” and that if manga was lost then anime would not last without it.

There were some titles, however, that Sato felt were fighting against the stagnating trends, including Eden of The East (for which he wrote two episode scripts) and his own Ergo Proxy. Sato said that he continues to write anime so that there will be a next project, but that he feels anime will die out in Japan over the next few decades.

===================================
So what do you guys think about this?

The guy sounds arrogant and self-appreciative much but hey, he’s got a point. Personally, I can’t agree to this since I am also having a feeling that sooner or later the quality of anime will decrease which will result to the lost in popularity. Some anime nowadays are focusing much on a generic theme which may or may not attract audience. They usually lack on substance and just be plainly appealing. Nothing more than that.

July Round Up From Animekon

Pokemon: Best Wishes - set as the new TV anime series’ title. Begins this autumn.

Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi – an anime DVD featuring a 20-minute episode will be bundled with limited editions of the boys-love manga’s 5th volume – out on January 5, 2011. The upcoming TV anime series is still not dated, it seems.

Kuroshitsuji II – the anime series’ second DVD volume will also include an OVA episode called “Ciel in Wonderland (Part I)”. Volume 2 will be out this October 27.

Cyborg Salaryman Mecha Afro-kun – an anime DVD was announced for this September 3, based on a gag comedy manga by Yuusaku Hanakuma. The dude is writing, directing and animating the anime himself.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – the TV series’ final episode revealed that a new movie is in the works. This will be the second FMA anime film, after Conqueror of Shamballa in 2005.

Kure-nai OVA – a second episode will be bundled on DVD with the manga’s 6th volume – out on December 3, 2010.

Buddha – the anime film based on the late Osamu Tezuka’s classic manga of the same title, will actually be a trilogy. The first movie is set to premiere in Japan on May 28, 2011.

Major OVA (2010) – a special OVA will be bundled with the baseball manga’s 78th and final limited-edition volume, out in mid December 2010.

Black Rock Shooter - the anime DVD that’s finally being released this week in Japan (as a bundle with various magazines, starting from July 24) will feature subtitles in 7 languages.

Karl to Fushigi na Tou (Karl and the Mysterious Tower) - a new children’s fantasy TV anime series announced for an October 2010 debut.

Rita et Machin (Rita and Whatsit) – also a children’s TV anime series, also set for an October 2010 debut. This one was originally announced in early 2009.

Amagami SS – 2 bonus DVDs with extra animated shorts will be offered to buyers of the first 6 Blu-ray / DVD volumes. This is one of the new anime series that began airing this month.

Senkou no Night Raid – 2 unaired episodes will be included on the anime series’ 4th Blu-ray / DVD volume, releasing in Japan this September 22. These are episode 7 and a new one called “Ahenkutsu no Akuma” (“Devil of the Opium Den”), and aside from them, said volume will also include episode 6 and the special episode “Yogen” (“Prediction”). Back in May, the latter was aired in Japan instead of episode 7, which apparently was “too sensitive” for TV; politically speaking.

Kami Sen. – please, please let this be an anime adaptation! A “bonus DVD” of some kind will be bundled with the drama CD adaptation of Takeaki Momose’s romantic comedy manga of the same title, out in Japan this winter (featuring two of K-ON!’s voice actresses). Momose mentioned that his “characters will move!” on the DVD, failing to point out just how insanely hot said characters are.

Super Robot Wars - another anime adaptation is in the making, allegedly. Update: Indeed.

Sengoku Basara Ni – an anime short called “Mini Sengoku Basara” will be included on this second season’s DVD volume 1, out in Japan on October 6, 2010.

Dragon Crisis! – a new TV anime series, based a light novel series authored by Kaya Kizaki, about a high school boy protecting a blue-eyed dragon “girl”.

Air Gear OVA – a self-explanatory original anime coming from studio Satelight, fully titled Air Gear: Kuro no Hane to Nemuri no Mori – Break on the Sky (The Black Wings and the Sleeping Forest – Break on the Sky). The release is planned for this November 17, on a DVD bundled with limited editions of the Air Gear manga’s 30th volume (although the OVA features the “Ikki vs. Ringo” face-off from volume 16).

Duel Masters: Honou no Kizuna XX – the third anime movie in the franchise will premiere in Japan this August 21, in a double billing with Metal Fight Beyblade the Movie.

Motto To Love-Ru: Trouble - the new To Love-Ru anime announced last month now has a title, and a TV series format. Begins in October 2010.

Bleach Movie 4 – the upcoming anime film now also has a title – Bleach: Jigoku-Hen (Bleach: Hell Chapter) – and a Japanese premiere date set for December 4, 2010.

G-Taste – an ecchi (or outright ero) anime DVD will be bundled with the “G-Best: G-Taste Best Selection” manga volume, which is a collection of erotic manga stories. The 25-minute anime is produced by studio AIC Plus+, with a release set for November 22, 2010.

Mayo elle Otokonoko - a “boys in skirts” trap’ish anime announced to be in the works at studio Actas, reuniting the director and designer of Moetan and Kowarekake no Orgel.

Kamisama Dolls – an anime adaptation of Hajime Yamamura’s supernatural action manga about powerful “god” figureheads was announced.

Cardfight!! Vanguard - an upcoming TV anime series based on a trading card game created as a collaboration between Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga creator Akira Ito, the original Duel Masters technical advisor Satoshi Nakamura, and Bushiroad President Takaaki Kidani. The game will go on sale in 2011, so odds are the anime won’t begin until then, either.

Battle Spirits 3 - the third anime season now has a title – Battle Spirits: Brave – and a TV premiere date set for September 12, 2010.

Kaichuu! – a web anime whose first 4-minute episode has already begun streaming last week, with a second (and final) episode set to follow this July 30. The anime is based on a high school archery / romantic comedy manga authored by Yuuki Hayashi.

Soukyuu no Fafner: Heaven and Earth – the anime film’s Japanese premiere has been set for December 25, 2010.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes - the anime series’ TV debut has been set for October 2010. Beware of moe loli detectives!

Kowarekake no Orgel Side Story - this 7-minute anime short will premiere in Japan on September 11, when it will be screened together with a theatrical version of POP’s omega-kawaii doujin anime Kowarekake no Orgel – featuring new footage at “Blu-ray quality”.

Kyou, Koi o Hajimemasu - a second DVD for this shoujo romance OVA has been green-lit for release this fall, bundled with limited editions of the manga’s 10th volume.

Occult Academy - 4 spin-off episodes will be included with this fresh anime series’ upcoming Blu-ray / DVD volumes, starting with volume 2 – out on October 27, 2010.

Yay.!!!! More Anime.!!! *dances around the PC*

Yebisu Celebrities

Date aired: May 28, 2010 to
Genre: Yaoi, Romance, Comedy
Type: OVA

Synopsis:
(From MyAnimeList)

When Haruka Fujinami starts his job at Yebisu Graphics he takes an immediate dislike to his tyrannical boss, Mr. Daijou. Haruka is given the most menial tasks imaginable and is subjected to Daijou’s verbal abuses as well, but oddly enough, he learns that his attraction to his boss grows with each new humiliation. Will Haruka finally stand up to Daijou and assert himself, or will he completely surrender his body and soul to the tall, dark stranger?
(From Aarinfantasy)
This is not any regular anime, it is called manga animation…
Which means it’s a mix of manga and some light animation thrown in with the usual anime’s voice acting and sound, and in Yebisu Celebrities’ case… it has the exact same artwork and even conversation from the manga. So it will be nothing new if you already read the manga, but for people who haven’t read the manga or know about the manga before this (like me), then you may be in for some lite treat of yaoi here, with some cuteness thrown in. Visually, it will remind you of a BL game!

Goodbye One Manga

One Manga has put up an announcement on their site the removal of manga scanlations due to licensing issues.
“There is an end to everything, to good things as well.”

It pains me to announce that this is the last week of manga reading on One Manga (!!). Manga publishers have recently changed their stance on manga scanlations and made it clear that they no longer approve of it. We have decided to abide by their wishes, and remove all manga content (regardless of licensing status) from the site. The removal of content will happen gradually (so you can at least finish some of the outstanding reading you have), but we expect all content to be gone by early next week (RIP OM July 2010).

So what next? We’re not really sure at this point, but we have some ideas we would like to try out. Until then, the One Manga forums will remain active and we encourage all of you to continue using them. OMF has developed into a great community and it would be a shame to see that disappear.

You can also show us some love in this moment of sadness by ‘liking’ our brand new Facebook page. It would be nice to see just how many of you came to enjoy our ‘better than peanut butter and jelly’ invention.

Regardless of whether you stay with us or not, on behalf of the One Manga team, I would like to thank you all for your unwavering support over the years. Through the ups and downs you have stuck with us, and that is what kept us going.

As a certain Porky was fond of saying… That’s all folks!

Time for me to go lay down and let this all sink in.

- Zabi

According to ryuchi-san (a friend of mine), this was posted yesterday and tomorrow will be their last day.

Heya~

How’s everyone? ^_^

I was so busy with school that I couldn’t update my blogs, and my list of anime and manga. A graduating student like I am needs to do a lot of things especially now that I have my thesis.^^”

As I’ve mentioned on my previous posts, I am supposedly writing reviews for these titles:

Inuyasha Kanketsu-hen

Miracle Train

Tegami Bachi

Aoi Bungaku

Seitokaichou ni Chuukoku

Close the Last Door

Haru wo Daiteita

among many others..

But I was feeling so burned out (was that the right term? ^^”) with all the things that I need to review that I do not know where to start. I also have a feeling that I will not produce any good works if I write those. So possibly and the only remedy I could think off is that I won’t write reviews for those titles and just focus all my energy and attention on writing reviews on the series that have finished last season. With this, I wouldn’t be pressured with the titles that keep piling up on my list. What do you think? ^^”

Now what will happen to this blog? I definitely won’t close this one. I love Bishie Holic, I love putting news, updates, reviews, or just random fangirling. But my posts will become sporadic. With so many things that need to be accomplished in real life, I wonder if I can still keep this blog updated as what I have done in the past. I still hope I can, though. Posts will only come at least once a week (mostly every weekend). I’ll try finishing the series’ that recently concluded and write a review right after since I have the tendency to write a review few weeks (and even months!) from the day I have finished watching/reading a series.

I have also made an ff.net profile.. :D Currently, it only contains one fanfic for Working!! anime. Last night, I have finished writing my second fic which is a Code Geass one mainly on LelouchxC.C pairing. I just waiting for it to be  betaed.^^” I’ll post the link to the story when I got back from school later.. :D

I hope you will still continue to drop by this blog. Thanks guys..:)
