I’m wondering if this is better than the first Fushigi Yuugi..^^”

I still need to finish To Aru Kagaku no Railgun and The book of Bantorra but that would definitely imposible now since our classes would start on Tuesday.. T_T

I am hoping that I can make reviews on those titles on the coming days.. I am really hopeful that the lazy bug won’t bite me..^^” And I’m also trying to finish my first fic and that is about the anime Working!!… I’ll try posting it here too.. :D

Manga Aggregator to Close as OpenManga Plans Launch

The maintainers of MangaHelpers, a site that aggregated unauthorized scans of manga with translations, have announced that they have taken steps to shut down the site. While they expressed their belief that they have served publishers’ market reach, the maintainers acknowledged that continuing to operate is no longer an option. Uploading and linking to untranslated manga scans and scanlations have been disabled on the site, and access to the current library is only available to scanlators to allow them to back up their work.

MangaHelpers also announced the pending launch of OpenManga, a new platform to allow manga creators to distribute their work digitally. The program will feature the ability for artists to sell merchandise and accept donations. The new program will also provide ways for users to legally translate and localize these manga. A website with a splash image has already launched. Manganovel Corporation, a online manga company 89% owned by the conglomerate Toshiba Corporation, launched a similar service in 2007, but it is no longer operating.

Ai no Kotodama BL Manga Gets 2nd Live-Action Film

Keiko Konno’s Ai no Kotodama boys-love manga has inspired a second live-action film, Ai no Kotodama ~Sekai no Hate Made~ (Words of Devotion: To the End of the World), which will open in Japan on August 7. Satoshi Kaneda directed the second Ai no Kotodama film as he did for the first.

Like the original manga, the first Ai no Kotodama film (2007) centered on the relationship between partners Ohtani (live-action GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka’s Hidenori Tokuyama) andTachibana (live-action The Prince of Tennis’ Yasuka Saitou) after high school. Saitou reprises his Tachibana role in the second film, but there are two new main characters who work at an advertising agency: an IT worker named Hirofumi (Makoto Ueunobori) and a high-level employee named Shinji (Ryūnosuke Kawai). Both Ueunobori and Kawai have appeared in the live-action stage musical version of The Prince of Tennis manga, and the Hirofumi character is Ueunobori’s first starring role in a film.

Digital Manga Publishing’s Juné imprint released the two volumes of the Ai no Kotodama manga under the title Words of Devotion in North America in 2007. Last month, the Japanese publisher Frontier Works announced that Kaneda will direct still another live-action film version of a boys-love manga — Hyouta Fujiyama’s Pure Heart (Junjō).

Japanese, U.S. Manga Publishers Unite To Fight Scanlations

An international coalition of Japanese and American-based manga publishers have joined together to combat what they call the “rampant and growing problem” of scanlations, the practice of posting scanned and translated editions of Japanese comics online without permission of the copyright holders. The group is threatening legal action against 30 scanlation sites.

The effort brings together the 36 member Japanese Digital Comic Association—which includes such major Japanese houses as Kodansha, Shogakukan and Shueisha—as well as manga publisher Square Enix, the Tuttle-Mori Agency and U.S.-based manga publishers Vertical Inc, Viz Media, Tokyopop and Yen Press, the manga/graphic novel imprint of the Hachette Book Group.

A spokesperson for the coalition said the effort shows that Japanese publishers—who license the majority of manga sold in the U.S.—are taking an aggressive interest in combating manga piracy outside of Japan as well as inside the country. The group charges that the former fan-driven practice of scanlating—begun in the 1970s to scan, translate and post manga online when it was difficult to find manga outside of Japan—has been transformed by “scanlation aggregators,” heavily trafficked, for-profit Web sites that host thousands of pirated manga editions and offer them for free to readers.

According to a spokesperson, these sites are among the most heavily trafficked sites on the web attracting millions of visits each month while earning advertising revenues and even soliciting donations and sometimes charging for memberships. The group also charges that pirated manga is now beginning to turn up on smartphones and other wireless devices through the use of apps developed “solely to link to and republish the content of scanlations sites.”

I found this article on one of my friend’s post in LJ. This made me sad. I know piracy is illegal but not all manga titles have been licensed. And even if it’s licensed, not all country has it..:( That’s all for now, I can’t think much since my thoughts are wandering to the number of anime episodes that I need to finish today.. Ja..

The special commendation recognizes Inoue’s contribution to the growing popularity of the basketball in Japan, as well as the Slam Dunk Scholarship that he established in collaboration with his publisher Shueisha.
